Places to explore

You can start from the beautiful harbour of Alykanas. Move alongside the tourist zone and in a few minutes you are in the region of Alykes. Immediately after Alykes, the scene begins to change.

You are in the Little River area with its turquoise waters and the small tavern where you can stop and eat.

After this you will reach the Lithari beach. A small beautiful beach with two distinguishing rocks sticking out of the sea. In this area you will find many small caves and also a nudist beach.

Xygia Beach ZakynthosLeaving Lithari beach you will arrive at Xygia beach. A beach with rare natural beauty and a cave with a signature smell coming from the sulphide source located within. It is believed that swimming in Xygia waters is therapeutic.

Now you can move along to Cape Kamylafka.

Right after it, lays Makris Gialos beach (long beach in Greek). Very impressive scenery with a pebbled beach and crystal clear waters, small caves and a little taverna located just above.

Next up is Mikro Nisi (Small Island in Greek) and on the exact opposite side on the land you will find the old Venetian Watch Tower and another taverna located in a very traditional Greek atmosphere.

At Agios Nikolaos the deep clear waters of the small bay are ideal for swimming. The port of the Gulf hosts small fishing boats and there is also a small island right opposite that you can visit.

Right after Agios Nikolaos you enter the region with the bigger caves.

First up is the Hirinospilia (Pig’s cave in Greek), then the Peristerona (Pigeon nest in Greek) and immediately after that the Papas cave (Priest’s cave in Greek).

As you move on you reach the Aspros Vrahos area (White Rock in Greek) with Cape Skinari being the northern end of the island and that’s where the famous Blue Caves are located. The deep blue colour of the sea is what gave the caves their name.

Remember that the area apart from its natural beauty is also famous for the frequent presence of Dolphins, the Mediterranean Seal and Octopuses (not gigantic, thank god, like in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies...).

So, DON’T FORGET YOUR CAMERA!!
Also, drinking water would be essential.

I think this will be one of the best if not the best day of your holiday and definitely, one you will never forget.
